Often the pain shoulder blade can give has to do with pain or problems in the neck. The bone and muscle around the shoulder share many nerve pathways with the neck. If there are problems in the lower neck and upper shoulder area creating pain and strain that pain and strain will also be felt in the shoulder blades. The part of the shoulder blades that feels neck pain the most is the part right inside the shoulder blade closest to the spine. Doctors can check for problems in both the neck and shoulder and try to diagnose the reason for the pain. If the doctor can locate where the problem is they can more likely determine what the shoulder pain is being caused from. Some neck and shoulder conditions cannot coexist, so if there was pain and problem in both those conditions would be ruled out. Many neck and shoulder conditions can and do coexist however.
