Troubleshooting Why My Computer Keeps Restarting Repeatedly

When troubleshooting why my computer keeps restarting repeatedly it became apparent that more investigative techniques are required to identify what hardware or software faults may be causing the issue. This is due to the lack of error messages being shown on screen.
The major concern should be the possibility of an overheating PC. Open up your BIOS menu and check the CPU temperatures. These should be within the guidelines specified by your manufacturer. If not then the BIOS will automatically shut down your system. Try fixing this by getting rid of any dust inside the computer, checking your fan blades have not been damaged and checking the CPU and heat sink are still connected.
More commonly however you should be able to view the event viewer log. This critical Windows log file also shows me errors that occurred when my computer keeps restarting which didn’t make it onto the monitor. The exception codes can then be researched online to identify different solutions for resolving the problem.
Hardware issues can also be detected quite easily using the device manager. It will specify if there are conflicts between components or other types of issues. The program provides a different suggestion dependent on what sort of conflict, driver issue or problem has been detected.
You should also check your disk drive for signs of damage. In particular, you should do a bad sector repair using HDD Regenerator or Windows error checking functionality to scan for and attempt to repair bad sectors. Any sectors that cannot be repaired will be duly marked as off-limits for storing any future files.
Finally, your registry could be the root cause of the problem. Try using the last known good configuration (advanced start menu) to rollback changes/damage to your registry file. This is especially useful if my computer keeps restarting before I even had a chance to log onto the system.
